Great job and heartfelt condolences for your parents 😞
Why don't you try to polish the body and face plate of your watches? there are many tools and metal polish products and mini craft tool kits , give it a start up try with not expensive watch of your collection trust me it will turn the table if you become good at restoring external parts
I already do case restoration, just look at my back catalog. Thing is it’s extremely time consuming and not as straightforward as you might think. To do it properly you have to remove the crystal. All flat crystals generally break in removal and finding digital watch glass replacements is impossible on many models. You also then devalue some of the more important watches. In my collection there are 3-4 that I did complete restorations on and mentioned that t in the video
Yet another great video! I have just subscribed to your review channel!
Great video, I am a watch collector from Czech Republic... Where is your wife exactly in Czech Republic from?

Nice bench, microscope and set up. I do sizing, batteries, light refinishing. Glad to see I'm not the only one with a bench in the laundry room. Cheers.
I’m going with the Timegrapher. 👍🏼
I think I had the same Timex watch shown at 58:00 during the 1980s, sadly I think it met it's demise in 1995 when it flew off my wrist into the road just as the bus I was waiting for arrived crushing it under it's wheels. The wrist clip was worn which meant it was prone to unclipping it's self, and the timing of the unclipping on that fateful day was terminal. 😒 Some interesting watches in your collection, I remember several of them being worn by others in the 1970s/1980s. 🙂
Hi Mike, I really loved this video for so many reasons. I make the same mistake with the keyless all the time-forgetting the order of things and having to redo the work. It’s always good for a laugh. But the part about remembering our loved ones-I hope it is comforting knowing your parents are with our Lord and continue to be proud of all your accomplishments. Deeply personal items like watches are among the only things left behind by our loved ones that we can continue to connect with on a daily basis. Good on you for getting this running again, and I bet the owner is thrilled with the job you’ve done. Wishing you the best, Chris
What's the name of the musical piece at the beginning?
Hungarian rhapsody. Chose it for the Hungarian connection but I think only one person got it😂
@@MyRetroWatches great choice
That's a real stunner, Mike. Sorry to hear about your parents. So often couples pass on closely together, as if called to reunite in the next life, if you believe in that sort of thing. I know of one case where the couple died within hours of each other and had a double funeral. But you know, broken heart syndrome is a real medical condition that changes the shape of the heart, making it less efficient. It's an incredible thing to think about, loving someone so much you're physically linked to them in that way.
Thank you . It’s possible dad could not live without mum but there were other factors happening too sadly.
Hi Mike, Sorry to hear about your parents, I'm sure they'll have been very proud of you. I found your channel because I recently lost my father and amongst some of the things he left me was a Seiko watch. That got me into watching videos on Seiko's and I came across your channel and now I'm addicted, I've binged watched hours and hours. Unfortunately the watch wont fit around my wrist and the correct strap doesn't seem to be available anymore and fitting a generic strap onto it just wouldn't seem right somehow. Thank you for the content.
Thank you for watching so much. You can get what are called bracelet extenders which are cheap and might give you enough length to make it fix
@@MyRetroWatches Thanks for the advice. I'll look into getting one.
Especially when using scotchbrite it helps to rub the metal perpendicular to the run of the grain first… that will help pick up scratches across the metal… then you rub following the grain…
What time does the "Day" normally change? On my 7009 its at 3am which feels wrong. Can this be adjusted in the same way?
That’s about right. You can’t adjust it.
My balance wheel won't run it all looks clean what can do to fix this
The well known magic thumb method. Nice.
I really learned a lot from this video about the time grapher You taught me a lot Gave me a much better understanding of the proper technique It’s very hot in Texas but out watches still run Many thanks
I have same recoh watch and i want a service.. share me courier details and service charges
Awesome, the excuse I needed to get my Horia, Chinese clone from AliExpress. Thanks!
Brilliant!!! Love the intro!!
Glad you enjoyed it
What should I use to clean parts with a jewel and shellac? Something that will not soften or dissolve the shellac.
Commiseration on the loss of your parents. Always a pleasure to see you tackle a new repair/restoration. Thank you for sharing your watch-making journey.
the amount of people praising this watch is astonishing. The parts/finnish and all are just very bad. This watch will stop working within a year and then good like servicing it and restarting. For the price is Ok, but you get what you pay for.
Well I know what your mean but to give it credit it’s still running just as good as it was and we are passed a year now.
Sorry for your loss Mike Excellent video as usual!
Dear Michael, I've been following you since you started this channel, this is the first time I'm commenting on one of your videos and all I want to say is that you are the most humble and genuine watchmaker on UA-cam. condolences for the loss of your parents.
Thank you for your kind words. Thanks for making your first comment also.
I have enjoyed your videos and learned from them! I had to comment on your sweet dedication - so lovely and brought a tear to my eye. Thank you.
Sorry for your loss Mike. Wondered why you weren't posting. Thoughts are with you and your family.
I dont know about the rest, but the Swaro's range way further than they advertise they can. Nice bonus.
Bloody great result. Looks great.
Sorry to hear about your mum and dad.
Really sorry for your loss. The dedication to your parents is quite moving and a great tribute. Your videos are most interesting even for someone unlikely to ever try your hobby. Many thanks for the huge effort it must take to make these and share them..
Thank you for your comment. Nice to know you find these interesting

My condolences on your loss…. Good to see you back….
Sorry for your losses and great to see you back
Hi Mike, that was an absolute masterclass in exactly what this wonderful hobby is all about, bringing back to live one of these little mechanical marvels that give us joy, accompany us through the highs and lows of life all while performing their rudimentary function of telling us the time. A fantastic story and I’m sure Darren and family will have been overjoyed with your exceptional work and dedication. Bravo mate, bravo👏👍
I don't understand why you don't oil the palette fork jewels?
You can oil the pallet stones but the pivot jewels is not advised. Watches are designed to run with little friction hence using ruby. Too much oil can cause drag. The saying goes if you see it then it’s too much! On the pallet pivots it can effect the running easily especially when it gets old. Stopping the pallet fork does not need much hence leaving as is.
Verry sorry for your great loss. I recently lost my mum which was very traumatic time for me. Great job on the Garrard looks fantastic. 👍
I've worked on a few watch movements where the finish is scratches running at random angles exactly the same way as this Bulova. It looks to me like a mistake. I think that finish is horrible. Of course it's most visible under the microscope. The best way I could describe the finish would be if someone dragged the plates back and forth at different angles over concrete or someone taking a screw driver to it in a mad fit creating deep scratches in the finish. I suppose if one's screw driver slips off a screw and creates a deep scratch it won't be noticed...🤣🤣 Surprised to see it on a Bulova. I'm currently working on a 1968 Accutron and all the lines on the finish are parallel. It's a lovely finish on the movement. A minor thing to some but much of my pleasure in working on watches is the work of art of a beautiful movement that's pleasing to the eye. Attention to that detail although it's hidden from the outside world.
Nice work! Very simple
Hi Mike that stem extender how's that effect the crown washer? and also why don't they make them out of stainless steel ? and why leave threads when they make watches smooth sides will make a better seal I've so many questions about stems lol Andy.
I can’t answer your questions. Stem extenders are just that they extend to so have enough thread. The join does not interfere with the setting lever and fits fine in the pendant tube. Extenders are stainless and many / all modern stems are stainless. Just occasionally and luckily some are not and you can save crowns. I had this on an omega years ago , replacement crown was £50 bit with alum I could rust out the old metal stem
Sorry about your mum and dad mate I lost my dad to cancer 20 years ago, like the watch GWS should do that brand how funny is that guy 🤣 Andy.
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole video. You should feel very proud of your self, that watch is a thing of beauty with a wonderful story. You have done that man proud!
Thank you.
What movement was it?
Could ya tell me the name of that song, from 32:50 to 35:09? It doesn't sound like The Bristol Stomp by The Dovells. It has some other connotation to it. I don't think I've heard 🤔 it. Your friend, Jeff.
Very interesting for a beginner like me. Keep it coming .
Hey Mike, was good to see you on Sunday, condolences again. Great job on this one. Your colleague will love it.
I'm half way through this excellent video. I had to stop after your personal announcement to send my deepest sympathies to you and your family.
Oh mate. Lurker and liker for several years but not a commenter. So very sorry and saddened to hear about your Mum and Dad.
Thank you for making your first comment.
If you love copperised movements you should see the Rondamatic in my Sicura, abs gawjus just gleams like burnished copper :)
